Day 188: Wales Coastal Path

D188: LLANABER to PENRHYNDEUDRAETH

Friday 26th September 2025

Today miles: 19.3 Total miles: 3086.9

I had a wonderful time at the Trawsdir touring park and campsite. The staff were super friendly and helpful, the facilities were awesome and the price was great value for money. I don’t have a single negative thing to say. I was quickly back on the coastal path and walking along the side of the road for the first two miles. Eventually the route leaves the road and heads across grassy fields back towards the coastline. For the first of several times today I crossed the railway tracks. There’s no shortage of campsites in this area and I strolled through several both big and small sites as I made my way towards Llanenddwyn. At one particular site they seemed to have dumped all their old plastic decking right across the path. The route would eventually wind its way back to the coastline and I had my first refreshment break on a well placed wooden bench overlooking Morfa Dyffryan beach. I also spotted a sign which confirmed that I had now entered the Snowdonia National Park. Around thirty minutes later I stepped onto the soft sand of Morfa Dyffryan beach. I quickly moved closer to the waterline where the sand was firmer and much easier to walk along.

The beach walking lasted for around two miles and was enjoyable and straightforward. At the end of the beach the route turns into the dunes through the national nature reserve and then reached the Southern edge of the Llanbedr Airfield. I spotted a random water tap close to the security fence and as I filled up my water bottle my mobile fell from my hand into a puddle of water. I quickly retrieved the phone but it was covered in sandy water. I wiped it down, stuck it into my pocket and hoped that it dry out and continue to work. The route now skirted around the airfield until reaching the North Eastern corner. I crossed over the Afan (river) Artro close to Llanbedr train station and then walked through several hundred metres of long grass and weeds along a sea wall towards Pensarn. Over the next mile I crossed the railway line on four occasions. After crossing Harlech beach I arrived in the town, found a small shop and grabbed items for my lunch. I then sat beneath Harlech Castle and ate my food.

Having avoided the temptation to snooze I continued out of Harlech and quickly crossed several more grassy fields and some small wooded areas. So far it’s been a beautiful day and the fun continues as I walked along the side of the Afon (river) Glaslyn. There’s a little hill to skirt around before I reach the old church at Ynys. I took some time to walk around the graveyard, I would estimate that around a third of the graves were occupied by a person previously named Jones.

Leaving the graveyard I continued over a nice wooden bridge and then walked a mile along a well trimmed sea wall. There’s another couple of crossings over the railway line before I finally arrived at my destination. I boarded the train soon after and arrived at my accommodation a hour later. I’ve booked myself a chalet at the Haven Hafen y Mor Holiday park for the next three nights. After settling in I went to the sites bar and enjoyed a couple of pints whilst watching the footie.
