Day 192: Wales Coastal Path

D192: ABERDARON to TUDWEILIOG

Wednesday 1st October 2025

Today miles: 18.7 Total miles: 3157.5

An uneventful night at my campsite and I was off again before 7am. The route initially crosses over an old stone footbridge which spans a narrow stream/river before a short and steep climb. It had rained overnight so the ground and vegetation were still wet and it wasn’t too long before my shoes were soaked through. The path for the next three miles stuck close to the coastline, across the edge of the cliffs. As I reached the South Eastern corner of the Lynn Peninsula I looked out across Bardsey Sound and spotted Bardsey Island through the sea haze. There are several small bays and inlets to negotiate over the next three miles but the descents/ascents are gentle and quick.

I was able to reach the South West corner of the Lynn Peninsula an hour later and the landscape (for me) resembled the heather covered Northumberland and Simonside hills. There were several large concrete slabs on the ground, no information plaque to help but I figured they were probably linked to World War II.

There were several coves to work around but they were straightforward and pleasant enough. At one of these coves, named Whistling Sands I stopped at a well placed wooden seat and ate a few small snacks from my backpack. There’s a road to this particular cove, a public car park and dozens of people exploring the local area.

Shortly after leaving Whistling Sands the dense heather slopes disappeared and were replaced by short grassy fields. I decided to try and book my campsite for tonight but couldn’t find any caravan park or holiday park that accepted tents, I’d just have to keep going and hope that something cropped up. The pleasant grassy route continued for a few more miles, twice I diverted off the path to check out a campsite but no joy. I pushed on towards a small commune (farm) named Towyn and managed to secure a patch of grass.

The site has a small shop and I picked up a takeaway coffee, a hot pastie and a large slice of my favourite, carrot cake. It’s forecast to be high winds so I chose a pitch carefully. I’m happy that I walked a few more miles then originally planned and pleased to have found a nice campsite. God provides.
