D125: TREGONY to TRURO
Friday 26th April 2024
Today miles: 10.7 Total miles: 2079.2
It rained overnight, it was just light but it made packing up this morning a little more problematic. I walked down to the bus station and hid under the eaves of the nearby church whilst I waited for the bus. The journey was more peaceful (no schoolchildren) and I arrived in Tregony around 9am. The rain had increased so I put on my rainproof jacket and trousers before leaving the bus stop. I crossed the River Fal along the busy A3078 and continued for the first mile. After diverting off the A road there’s a series of minor roads for three miles before I arrived in Tresillian. By this point I was soaked and desperate to get out of the rain. Fortunately it had just turned 11am and ‘The Wheel Inn’ doors were being unlocked. I soon found myself a warm corner to remove my waterproofs and the kind barman quickly brought me a hot drink. I took my time, slowly sipping my caffeine drink whilst my clothes dried near the open fire. An hour later the rain had eased off so I left the sanctuary of the warm Inn. I left the road soon after leaving Tresillian and picked up a nice stone path which runs parallel to the Tresillian River. The path was busy with dog walkers and joggers but eventually these faded out as did the nice stone path. After passing through St Clement the route became more difficult. The recent rain and the wet tree roots littering the path ensuring a more cautious approach. Despite these issues I enjoyed the walking, the sun was poking through the clouds and I felt good.

I left Tresillian River at Malpas and joined the path running parallel with the River Truro. This path would take me directly into Truro town. I had booked myself into a hotel tonight and was looking forward to sleeping on a soft mattress. I can’t get booked in until 3pm so I had a look around town and picked myself up a foot long Subway sandwich. I also stopped for my second coffee. I desperately need a new pair of walking shoes as the ones I’m currently wearing are falling apart. I checked out a couple of smaller shops but couldn’t find anything that I liked.

After getting settled into my hotel room I enjoyed a nice bath and then tucked into my sandwich. I decided not to leave my room and was last asleep before 9. I didn’t cover a lot of miles today but I’d already booked accommodation for tomorrow night in Penpol and I couldn’t change the booking.
