Day 121: English Coastal Path

D121: ST BLAZEY to ST AUSTELL

Monday 22nd April 2024

Today miles: 4.8 Total miles: 2023.8

Today was meant to be a rest day, however I got a little bit bored by the afternoon and it was such a nice day that I decided to go for a little walk towards St Austell. Once I’d worked out how to get myself back to St Blazey, I left my accommodation and retraced the steps from yesterday, walking the mile back along the old railway line. Back on the coastal path I passed by the China Clay works and quickly left the town behind. There’s ann occasional dog walker passing by and then I said hello to several friendly golfers teeing off near the path. It felt great to not be carrying a heavy pack on my back. The vast majority of the path was an easy, flatish meadow with just an occasional short and narrow stretch of gorse bush to squeeze through. All too quickly I had arrived in Charlestown in the South East of St Austell.

I took a short walk down to the dock and chilled out for an hour before deciding to catch the bus back to St Blazey. I was aware that the chip shop in St Blazey had a good reputation but didn’t open until 5pm. I killed some time by dropping into the local shop first and picked up some snacks and four cans of cider. I was feeling hungry so on arrival at the chip shop I ordered myself a large fish and chips. It was a huge portion and the amount of chips could have easily fed a family of four. I went to bed with a full stomach and feeling slightly tipsy from the four cans of cider. Once again I’m alone at the B & B.
